Every time you come into class to train in Parkour and Freerunning, we focus the class on one of the four main aspects of Parkour; Floor, Vaults, Walls, or Bars. By structuring the classes this way, we’ve discovered that our cadets learn each of the aspects of parkour much more quickly and efficiently than spending a few minutes in each area every class. We designed and custom built our facility based upon the curriculum needed to learn Parkour. They are divided into the following four categories.
FLOOR – Safety is the most important foundation in both parkour and freerunning. You will learn how to crawl, roll, and transition into higher jumps and flipping during these class times. This is where you will learn how to do a backflip.
VAULTS – Conquer the obstacles in your path. You will learn how to apply your jumping skills and adapt your body movement to run through smoothly through surroundings. You will learn how to use your body’s momentum to launch yourself over obstacles with efficient and flashy moves. This is where you will learn horizontal efficiency.
WALLS – Overcome your fear of heights. You will learn how to scale the walls efficiently with proper technique and develop aerial awareness. Your 3-dimensional perspective will grow dramatically. This is where you will learn vertical efficiency.
BARS – Balance your mind and body in our bar grid. Every part of our bar grid is completely adjustable. This allows us to create floating platforms, and adapt our curriculum to people of every height, age, and fitness level. This is where you will learn how to control your body’s weight shifting and increase our upper body strength.
Our team of professional coaches and Freerunners developed our curriculum to make sure you progress through learning Parkour as quickly and safely as possible. We are trained to teach people of all ages and fitness levels to learn this exciting new movement and art form.
We train Heroes here at Firestorm. In that process, everyone will need to know how far along you are on your journey up the ranks. In order to make sure you’re getting the proper training for your skill level and experience, we need the coaches to be able to safely, and clearly see what you’re ready to learn.
We break our students into colored ranks, similar to the colored belt system of martial arts. Instead of colored belts, we use colored silicone wrist bands and hero shirts. Each new student starts off as a white band/shirt, or what we refer to as a Cadet. As your skills and abilities continue to grow, your skills are tested to see if they are ready to move on to more advanced skills and more advanced areas of the gym.
WHITE/Cadet: We focus on learning to use our body parts in coordination through basic running and precision jumping. Safety is the most important aspect in this rank. Students learn how to protect themselves from falls and slips as well as practice basic vaulting and climbing.
ORANGE/Page: Students being to learn intermediate vaults as well as link basic vaults together. Here we begin learning how to climb up and over objects much larger than us. Students begin to learn control over using all their limbs in unison. Balance and body coordination training is the name of the game.
GREEN/Squire: Students now being to learn some basics of tumbling. We begin to learn basic spins and rolls with our vault training as well as begin to string multiple vaults in sequence. Students begin to learn how to run up walls and block much larger than their height. Swinging and basic bar control training begins.
BLUE/Apprentice: At this point, students begin to lean speed and efficiency with their movement. We begin introducing the idea of flow, the ability to connect your movements without loss of speed and inertia. Basic flip training begins with the introduction of front and back flips. Students begin to learn more advanced swings and dismounts from bars and rails.
PURPLE/Knight: At this level, students are now beginning to have the control and power to learn double and trick vaults over objects. Flip training progresses to wall flips and spins. We begin to mix all of our basic areas of training into one, allowing movement to cross over from bars, vaults, tumbling, and wall flips into one continuous movement.
RED/Ranger: At this level, we begin the big tricks. Students will begin to learn how to spin while flipping. Students begin to learn more difficult styles of flips and spins beyond front and backwards. We focus on razor sharp precision with larger jumps and vaults. This rank is where you begin to learn the big tricks.
BLACK/Professional: At this level, you are have a very solid, well rounded base in Parkour and Freerunning skills. You are ready to join a Pro-Team, compete as a professional Traceur, and perform in the Industry. Now is the time to choose where to take your skills as many paths are now available to you.
