MARTIAL ARTS TRICKING

Otherwise simply known as Tricking, is a modern martial art that combines acrobatic movements from several traditional sports and martial arts: Karate, Capoeira, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Gymnastics, Cheer, and Break dancing. The aim of the sport is to create an “aesthetic blend of kicks, flips, and twists.” 

Curriculum

The foundation of our tricking workout can be subdivided into four main areas of focus: kicking, flipping, twisting and style.

Kicking The foundation of tricking is learning how to balance on one leg and make as many hip adjustments as possible. As a tricker (a practitioner of tricking) progresses, aerial kicks become simpler to execute, and make it easier for the tricker to string together combinations of movements.

FlippingFlipping augments the tricker’s kicking repertoire. Combining kicks with inverted aerial control allows for a completely new perspective on the movement. Traditional tumbling fundamentals help add to the foundation of flashier kicks, making each combination flourish beautifully. Plus, everyone loves to see a good flip.

Twisting This is where timing, flexibility, strength and control intersect in this acrobatic art. Twists generally taken from tumbling in arts like breakdancing and gymnastics add the final touch to a gorgeous combination.

Style The way in which you string together different maneuvers in your repertoire is your signature in the tricking world. Your body language and the stage presence you create for yourself determines how the audiences perceive your personality in your movement. Above all, the methods in which you transition from trick to trick will serve you well for gorgeous looking combos.

We finish EVERY tricking class with an open tricking session where each student is encouraged to collaborate and create innovative new tricks and combinations, and get a sense of their own personal style. This is the best opportunity to combine your personal fitness background and integrate it with new concepts learned in class.

Rank Breakdown

 

White Rank: Introduction to Tricking with an emphasis on Basic, Safe movements. Beginning Rolls and Basic Kicks with proper Martial Arts Technique and Form.

Orange Rank: Introduction to Spinning Kicks, Basic Acrobatics, and Beginner Twists. Introduction to Transitions, allowing the connecting of Basic Kicks.

Green Rank: Intermediate Kicks, Twisting, and Acrobatics. Introduction to Flips and Swing-Throughs.

Blue Rank: Advanced Kicks and Twisting. Intermediate/Advanced Acrobatics movement. Intermediate Swing-Throughs.

Curriculum Cards and How to Rank Up: Students must master a set number of predetermined skills in order to "Rank Up" and move to more advanced classes.
